Dan Langshaw’s Intersection of York & Albion Road Public Comments February 2, 2021 before North Royalton City Council Streets Committee Meeting

The issue of addressing the traffic and safety concerns regarding the intersection of York & Albion Road has been going for almost two decades. We all know what needs to be done. I thought we were close to getting real action on this issue early in 2020 when I was on Council. However, it seems like we are going backwards to further delays with another study being called for it seems. I urge City Council to finally get this issue addressed by either adding a left turn arrow to the existing signal operation or left turn only lanes on the northbound and southbound approaches to York Road. Here are some reasons why:

  • Page 5 of the June 2019 Intersection Crash Evaluation Technical Memorandum Study by the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, they ranked it as the 4th highest intersection in our city with frequent crashes between 2014-2018 with a total of 36 vs the intersection of Ridge/Royalwood/Julia that was in a 4 way tie for 9th.
  • Page 6 of June 2019 Intersection Crash Evaluation Technical Memorandum Study by the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency even states that the intersection of York & Albion Road be a higher priority to address due to the frequency of crashes.
  • Page 6 of the November 2020 Intersection Operational Analysis York Road and Albion Road Study by the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency under recommendations under bullet points 3 and 5 support my suggested solutions I have already mention and some of you have too.
  • Fire Station #2 is located at the intersection of York and Albion Roads and is a vital service that people count on with their lives to respond quickly without delay.
  • In a May 4, 2019 North Royalton Post Article Mrs. Fenos was quoted saying “If traffic backs up with nowhere else to go and emergency vehicles can’t exit freely, there’s the potential for emergency response time delays”. I agree with her.

Please address this important issue with the solutions already presented to City Council.

Council Update

Highlights from Council Meetings
Some highlights from the Council Meetings for the month of September. Council approved Resolution 19-72 authorizing the Mayor to seek financial assistance from the State Issue 1 Infrastructure Bond Program for Funding for Abbey Road. Council also approved Ordinance 19-74 amending the Rules of Council to update procedures for members needing to abstain from voting on legislation for any possible conflict that may come up which they can’t vote on legislation before council. Council also approved Ordinance 19-79 allowing the city to restructure the debt on the YMCA property and building. The end result will be a lower interest rate and savings for both the city and the YMCA.

Ward 3 E-Newsletter: August 2019

Greetings Ward 3 Resident,Wow the summer has gone by fast. It is hard to believe it is already August. Before you know it will be back to school time for the kids. City Council is officially on Summer Recess for the entire month of August. However, there are still a number of things going on in your City Government to update you on below. Also please Save the Date for my 4th Annual Ward 3 Picnic in the Park Event on August 31st below is more information.

Save the Date for the 4th Annual Ward 3 Picnic in the Park

Back by popular demand. I will host my 4th Annual Ward 3 Picnic in the Park on August 31st from 1-3pm at Memorial Park Pavilion #2 located at 14600 State Rd in North Royalton. In the case of rain the event will be held inside the community room at city hall. No RSVP is needed. I invite all North Royalton Ward 3 residents and their families to come out to enjoy a fun afternoon in the park. Filled with FREE food, games, and a chance to meet fellow neighbors too. Kona Ice will be serving up their famous sweet treats. J.R. Grieco Cleveland’s first choice for Magic will be doing balloon art entertainment. Special appearances by the North Royalton Fire & Police Departments for the kids. Each year I select a local charity or cause for my event to support. This year those who attend are encouraged to make a donation at the event to help support 22 year old Ward 3 resident Joe Keider, who was tragically injured after being hit by an alleged drunk driver in April while riding his motorcycle. In addition I am working with the Keider Family to help raise awareness about motorcycle and motor vehicle safety in hopes to save lives in the community. At the event Polaris Career Center will have helpful information to promote motorcycle & motor vehicle safety. For more information please contact me by email at ward3@northroyalton.org or by phone at 440-785-4240.
