SINCE MY LAST SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE
The School Board met on May 14th for its’ May Regular School Board Meeting. Some highlights from the meeting. About 4 members of the public addressed the board regarding their thoughts on the facilities needs of the school district. NRHS Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude students were recognized. Also kindergarten students from the ECC gave a little performance from Three Nannie Goats Grimm opera and sang a few songs for the Board. The Board approved a resolution determining to proceed with the submission of the question of the issuance of school improvement bonds in the aggregate principal amount of $54,300,000 to the electors of the North Royalton City School District. The Board also approved an appropriation adjustment. The board also discussed and approved the district’s five-year forecast and assumptions. Board recognized Cindy Velotta as the 2011-12 North Royalton City School District Teacher of the Year and George Hasek as the 2011-12 North Royalton City School District Support Staff Person of the Year. The Board approved also various other agenda items, and such other matters that came before the Board.

NRHS Makes Newsweek’s List of Nation’s Best Public High Schools
North Royalton High School has been named to the Newsweek magazine’s list of the nation’s best public high schools. With a ranking of 771 out of 1,000 schools named, North Royalton High School made the list because of its high scores in the following: four-year on-time graduation rate; percent of 2011 graduates accepted to college; number of college-level exams, such as Advanced Placement, per student; average SAT and ACT scores; average score on AP or similar exams; and the number of such college-level courses offered per student. There were only 35 Ohio schools on the list this year. Congratulations to our teachers, staff, students, and community for this incredible accomplishment!
2012 Dan Langshaw Leadership Scholarship Winner
Special congrats to North Royalton High School Senior Nolan Burger who is the winner of the 8th Annual Dan Langshaw Leadership Scholarship. Nolan will be attending the University of Cincinnati in the fall and majoring in Physical Therapy.
On June 1st participated in the Commencement Ceremony for the NRHS Class of 2012 at the State Theater in Cleveland. Please join me in offering congratulations to all our graduating NRHS Seniors from the Class of 2012.
