Council Update
Highlights from Council Meetings
Some highlights from the City Council Meetings for May. Council approved Ordinance 18-55 to accept the findings of the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission redistricting study which City Council concluded no changes we needed for the city’s six wards at this time. Read More. Council also approved Ordinance 18-56 that Council President Larry Antoskiewicz and I Co-Sponsored that provides basic regulations to yard sales in the city. This new law will help clean things up in our city and give our Building Department a tool to address this kind of property blight and safety issue. No one wants to see for days, months, and even all year long piles of junk, bird cages, car parts and things scavenged out of the trash on properties as they drive though our city. Thank you to the Ward 3 residents who brought this issue to my attention so I could do something legislatively about it! If you see a property that is a concern that is possibly violating this new ordinance please contact the City Building Department at 440-582-3000. Read More about the new law. Also Channel 19 News did a recent story about our new ordinance as well that you can watch by Clicking Here to view the video clip.

2018 City Road Repair Program Update
This year’s road program is underway. This year roads like York Road, W Wallings Road, and more roads here in Ward 3 are being repaired/patched this summer in addition others city wide. Weather permitting, American Roadway Logistics will begin the street striping city wide on June 11th with a contingency date of July 7th. The striping will be done during the hours of 8:00 pm and 6:00 am to avoid issues with traffic. Drivers should use extreme caution and patience if they encounter a striping crew.
North Royalton’s Simple Recycling Program has begun this month. You may recycle items such as clothing, linens, shoes, toys, etc. in the orange plastic bags you received in the mail. How it works: On your regularly scheduled recycling day, place your orange Simple Recycling bags curbside BESIDE YOUR RECYCLING CART and a truck with the words “Simple Recycling” will pick them up and leave you replacement bags. Special labeled tags are also available if you have household goods that are easier to box up. Residents who currently donate items to charity are encouraged to continue to do so. This program is meant to offer another avenue to dispose of items not accepted by the charitable organizations. To request additional bags or for more information on the program, check out Simple Recycling’s website at http://simplerecycling.com/supplies/ or call 866-835-5068.

Opening Day Ceremony
The North Royalton Fire Department has started their annual fire hydrant flushing. The Fire Department will begin flushing hydrants here in Ward 3 soon and will continue for the next 10 to 14 days. It may take them longer due to call volume, training, weather and other mandatory daily requirements. Please be alert for discolored water and if it should occur, run your cold water until it is clear. Before an area is tested, residents will be notified through the city’s reverse 911 phone system called ReadyNotify. If you have not signed up for the city’s reverse 911 Click Here to sign up.
Ward 3 Recycling Tip of the Month
During the summer months many kids are home since school is out for the summer and are outside playing in the neighborhoods of our ward. Please be mindful of this and observe the posted speed limits which are typically 25mph on residential streets and 35mph on the main roads of our city.
During the summer months it is a good reminder there were way too many targets of opportunity for thieves, remember to lock your cars, valuables, and homes up! Also if you see something suspicious in your neighborhood report it to the North Royalton Police Department. See Something Say Something! If you have plans to go on a vacation this summer or will be out of town. You can also contact the North Royalton Police Department to advise when you will be out of town and request a vacation watch. The non-urgent number to the Southwest Emergency Dispatch Center for North Royalton is 440-237-8686. Also in an Emergency besides calling 911 you can also text 911 anywhere in Cuyahoga County Click Here to learn more.
Exterior Property Maintenance Reminder
As your Councilman I get reports from the Building Department on various violations by Ward 3 property owners, which city building inspectors have found during their inspections. A common violation I start to see this time of the year as the weather gets warmer is of non-compliance with Section 660.14(a) (b) (c) (d) of the Codified Ordinances of North Royalton titled “Weeds and Grass”. A majority of these are properties that appear to be either vacant or in foreclosure, in which the grass has not been cut or the weeds have become overgrown. Here are some helpful reminders about what property owners are required to do for exterior maintenance of their property. Property owners are required to cut any weeds, grass, underbrush and non-edible grass or woody vegetation in excess of 6 inches. Ensure that any ditches are kept clear of any type of grass, underbrush in excess of 6 inches. Exterior of property areas of all premises and lots shall be kept free of any debris, objects, material or conditions which may create a health, accident or fire hazard. The exterior of every structure or accessory structure including fences, shall be maintained in good repair and all surfaces shall be kept painted. Storing abandoned or junk vehicles on your property is not allowed. If you know of any properties like this in our Ward that may have an issue, please report them directly to the Building Department at 440-582-3000.
