Greetings Ward 3 Resident,

The year is off to a good start here in city government with much to report below. Before I get into more details I just wanted to share with you the following announcements:

Committed to Serving Ward 3 for Another Term
On January 5th I pulled my petitions from the Board of Elections to seek a second elected term on the North Royalton City Council. Read More. I am committed to continuing to serve the over 5,500 residents that call Ward 3 home. I want to keep the positive momentum taking place here in North Royalton through my experience, dedication and proven record of service to my residents. Over the next several months I will be going door to door throughout our entire ward to meet with residents. I look forward to hearing what concerns or suggestions residents may have regarding our ward and city’s future to come. See you soon!

Support Team Willey
On March 7, 2015 I will be participating again for Team Willey for the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb at the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland in honor of my friend and late North Royalton Ward 3 Councilman Don Willey. Council Update

Highlights from Council Meetings
Some highlights from the City Council Meetings for January. Council passed Ordinance 15-10, an ordinance authorizing the expenditure of funds for playground design, equipment, and installation at Memorial Park in the City of North Royalton through the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, Ohio Cooperative Purchasing Program for an amount not to exceed $147,635.00. Read More. Council also approved Ordinance 15-11 which makes it more easier for residents to understand the city’s laws in regards to fences.

 City Update

Cedar Estates Storm Water Project Update

Phase 1 is under way to replace and upsize portions of the undersized main storm sewer system in the northern portion of the Cedar Estates development. Read More.

Fight Against Oil Drilling Update
Back in December the city received good news that the Ohio Oil and Gas Commission had ruled in our city’s favor regarding the mandatory pooling case involving Cutter Oil Company.The commission ruled that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) should have considered the city’s serious concerns with past safety issues at Cutter wells in the city. However, last month ODNR announced intentions to appeal the commission’s ruling. The case will head to the Common Pleas Court of Franklin County to be decided. I will keep you posted on this issue. Regional Deer Control Update
Last year Council unanimously passed Resolution 14-116, a resolution requesting the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to exercise its authority to control deer population in Cuyahoga County. Specifically the Ohio Revised Code 1531.02 states that the “ownership of, and the title to, all wild animals in this state, including deer, is in the state”. Since then Mayor Stefanik has been urging fellow mayors in Northeast Ohio, through the Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers Association, to work together get the state to address this issue. Crack Sealing
At the start of the new year the city received good news that it was awarded $48,029 from the county to put toward crack sealing county streets this year for 2015.Roads that will be crack sealed include ]both Wallings and Royalwood roads from Ridge Road to the eastern border; Akins Road between Edgerton and Bennett roads and from Route 82 to the eastern line; Cady Road between Ridge and State roads; Boston Road between West 130th Street and Ridge; the northbound lane of West 130th between Boston and Sprague roads; Sprague’s eastbound lane between West 130th and York; both Abbey and York roads between Route 82 and Sprague; Albion Road between West 130th and Ridge; and Wallings between York and Ridge. A number of these roads are located here in Ward 3 and by crack sealing them it will help improve the roads both in our ward and throughout the city too. Read More.

City Website Upgrade
Recently the city’s website got some much needed upgrades and a nice new look. The city’s website address is still www.northroyalton.org. Read More.

New Police Officers
The Police Department has hired two new additional patrol officers. These two officers were hired in anticipation of upcoming retirements the department is planning for. Both officers are a great addition to the department! Read More.


 Around Ward 3

County Executive Inauguration
On January 4th attended the new Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish’s Inauguration. It was good to hear what his goals are for the next four years and it is my hope that the county will do more to help local governments like ours. Read More.

Informational Bond Counsel Meeting
On January 19th attended an informational meeting with the city’s Bond Counsel.

Planning Commission Public Hearing & Meeting
On January 21st attended the city Planning Commission Public Hearing & Meeting. During the Public Hearing I shared my concerns and those of Ward 3 residents with the Commission regarding York and Wallings LLC also known as Mulch World’s request for a similar use determination to operate a trucking facility for storage and operation of semi-trailers at its location. The Planning Commission unanimously voted against the request by the business. Read More.
