Good Afternoon:
Last week the school district’s 5-year Strategic Plan was unveiled which outlines six goals that the district has set. They are, improve community engagement, student achievement, communications between the school and community, facilities, financials and collaboration efforts between staff members. The School Board will vote on approving this plan at our May 10th Regular Board Meeting.
As one of your representatives on the North Royalton School Board, I am currently working hard to review this very important document which will help set the course of the next 5 years for our district. However, before I cast my vote in May I would like to get your input on this. Attached is a draft copy of the North Royalton School District’s Strategic Plan.
I have 3 questions:
1) What do you think of our Strategic Plan goals?
2) What do you like about the Strategic Plan?
3) Are any improvements needed in the Strategic Plan? If yes, please explain what?
Please e-mail at dan.langshaw@northroyaltonsd.org your responses to these questions after you have had a chance to read the entire strategic plan. Also if you prefer to give me your input in person please come out to my Monthly Constituent Coffee this Monday, April 19th at the French Quarter Café located at 5540 Wallings Road from 6pm to 8pm.
LAST WEEK IN YOUR SCHOOL BOARD
The School Board met on April 12th for its’ April Regular School Board Meeting. The Board honored Teacher of the Year Lisa Arvay and Support Staff Person of the Year recipient Dave Albert. The Board also recognized the achievements of several high school athletes who went to states. In addition the Board honored Christine Studor, school information coordinator for her years of dedicated service to the North Royalton School District; she will be retiring at the end of the month. In appreciation for the outstanding efforts of all school district’s employees, the Board acknowledged Administrative Professionals Week April 18th -24th and Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week May 3rd-9th. The Board also approved the appointment of Jeffery Cicerchi as middle school assistant principal and Kevin Kuntz as the new athletic director for the district.
On April 13th the Health and Wellness Committee met. We discussed upcoming health fairs, new legislation updates, and got an update regarding food allergies.
As the Valley Vista Elementary School Building Liaison, I attended their Evening PTA Meeting on April 13th. I gave a little update on various things going on in the district and board. I truly enjoy hearing about all the nice things that our PTAs do for our students and staff. I would like to note that Valley Vista student’s collected over $3,000 for Jump for the Heart which benefits the American Heart Association.
On April 14th I attended the Ohio School Boards Association’s Communication Workshop held down in Columbus. I found the workshop extremely informative and relative because communication is part of the district’s strategic planning goals. Some of the topics that were covered: engaging families and communities, working with the media, developing successful school-business partnerships, and tapping the potential of parent involvement.
State of the Schools Strategic Plan Presentation
On April 14th Superintendent Ed Vittardi presented an overview of the Strategic Plan to the Community at the State of the School Presentation in the performing arts center. The presentation outlined the beliefs, vision and new mission of the District which is “We inspire and empower learners.” Mr. Vittardi proceeded to detail the six goals associated with the plan and the action steps linked to each goal. After the presentation, the community was invited to participate in small group discussions to review the plan and offer their opinions on the overall strength of the plan and what suggestions they had. Approximately 140 school and community members attended the presentation.

Renewal Levy
Just a reminder that the North Royalton School District has a renewal levy on the
May 4, 2010 ballot. This renewal levy WILL NOT increase taxes and passage is vital to allow our district to maintain current programs and services. This levy is a combination of two issues, the first of which was passed in 1990 and was last renewed in 2005. The levy will continue to raise $6,695,000 annually. Please vote YES on issue 8!
Have a Great Week!
